Altador Cup

So, every year around this time Neopets starts their crazy popular tournament called the Altador Cup.

I’m pretty obsessed about it. At the end of the tournament, depending how much you play, you get shop points where you can buy special items. I’ve always wanted to get the top prize but I’ve never really played enough to get that high amount of points. This year I’m determined though.

Typically, I just buy as many of the prizes that I can and wait a few years for their prices to go up.

Game Play:

The Altador Cup consists of four different games and eighteen teams that you can choose from. Recently, they changed the way they set up the tourney. It used to be just random team match-ups but now they divide the teams into three separate divisions, randomly generated. Each team plays within that division, and I’m assuming that the teams are randomly generated after each team has played one another in their own division.

The four games consist of one main game and three separate mini games. Obviously the main game, YooyuBall(YYB), is worth the most points when it comes to both team standings and when it comes to advancing your individual rank. There are 20 ranks you can advanced in total.

The other three games are mini games. Slushie Slinger(SLSL), Make Some Noise(MSN), and ShootOut ShowDown(SOSD). Twelve games of MSN and SOSD equal one YYB win. Six games of SLSL equal one YYB win. Two YYB draws equal one YYB win and a YYB lose doesn’t equal to any points whatsoever.

Cons:

  • Can get boring
  • Time consuming
  • Once a year

Pros:

  • Meet really cool people
  • Profitable
  • Fun
  • Prize Shop
  • Trophy at the end

The one problem with the Altador cup is that playing the same game over and over can get repetitive. The Neopet’s Boards help a lot and you meet many many cool people. Talking with them in between games relieves the “NEVER WANT TO PLAY THIS AGAIN” feeling. And listen to Podcasts while playing helps too. Currently, I’m listening to the Minecraft Podcast, “The Shaft”. After the tourney, or maybe just during my breaks, I’ll probably start playing Minecraft again.

If anyone has any other Podcast suggestions, big or small, I’ll be willing to check them out. ;D

I like a lot of games and Neopets isn’t my all time favourite, but I always find myself coming back. Usually, I just do the dailies when the Altador Cup isn’t going on. Most of my time is going to be dedicated towards the tournament right now though, so I’ll be neglected my other internet duties slightly.

Tl;dr: Despite the few flaws the Altador Cup has, it’s always a good time and I look forward to it each year. I’d probably have to give it a 3.5/5, mainly because it’s something you really have to get into and that it can put you in a slump rather quickly.

Oh Tumblr, how I’ll miss thee!

Going away to a College camp up in Reno for 5 days. I won’t be on the internet probably the entire time. How will I survive!? Goodbye, tumblr! Goodbye, sweet life! Well, probably not that dramatic. I’m gonna have a super good amount of fun and things to do, so I should be fine. ANYWAY, SEE YOU ON FRIDAY!!
